WATER

The City of LaFayette operates a 1.2 MGD Surface Water Treatment Plant. The LaFayette Water Treatment Plant provides a water supply to a population of approximately 4,600 people extending beyond the city limits and into the Police Jurisdiction. The water source is surface water, which is the City Lake. The City Lake Reservoir contains approximately 100 acres of surface area, and is located west of the city on County Road 48.

The treatment process at the LaFayette Water Treatment Plant consists of coagulation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. The distribution system consists of four elevated storage tanks and one clear well with a combined storage capacity of 1,100,000 gallons.

The distribution system is made up of a pipe network that spans approximately two hundred miles, consisting of PVC as well as cast iron pipes. In case of emergencies, the city has a tie-in with Huguley Water Authority.
